In this introduction to Focusing class, you will learn a practical, step-by-step process that helps you create more calm in your life and feel more confident moving towards the life you want. Throughout most of our lives, our attention is directed outwards and we apply our minds — our critical thinking skills — to every problem. When emotions come, we react quickly, often identifying with the emotion, or burying it. We then often castigate ourselves for what we did or didn’t do.
Focusing offers a revolutionary alternative: we can pause, turn inward and then hold our emotions (what comes) with compassion. This simple process enables us to access and embrace the wisdom from our whole body. This allows new insights to emerge and encourages healing to happen.
Focusing is a simple, everyday tool that can help you tap into the positive energy within you and free you from old narratives and emotional patterns.
Goals of class
Develop concrete skills that you can use to Focus outside of class.
Build a relationship with your inner self.
Emphasis is on you as a focuser (not on '“companioning” skills; that comes later).
Provide you with the tools to integrate Focusing skills into your daily life.
1st of four modules
Learn ways to support your practice (continued practice over time, between classes).
Whet your appetite to learn/practice more (lifelong practice).
What is included: Combination of teaching and practice, within a supportive community
Focusing is radical, even revolutionary, given our culture.
To learn how to do it, and to integrate it into our lives, we need a combination of theory and practice within a supportive community
